September 27), - Paulinskill Trail, Northwestern NJ.

The Paulinskill Trail follows an abandoned railroad. The following ferns
have been found on the Paulinskill: Adiantum, Asplenium ( 4 sp.),
Athyrium, Botrychium (4 sp.; multifidum found once), Cystopteris
(2 sp.), Dennstaedtia, Deparia, Diplazium, Dropteris. (11 taxa),
Onoclea, Matteucia, Osmunda (3 Sp.), Pellaea, Polypodium, Polystichum,
Pteridium, Thelypteris, Phegopteris, Woodsia (2 sp.), Lycopodium,
Equisetum, Huperzia.
Wear footwear that can get wet with lug sole for rock scrambling. Small
binoculars helpful.
Meet at 10:00 AM. Directions: From the south and west, take PA
route 611 north and cross into New Jersey. Take a slight left onto NJ route 94
east. After 15.9 miles, turn left onto Fairview Hill Road (labeled Valley Hill
Road on some older maps). Go up the road and then down a long, steep hill.
Follow to the intersection of Lincoln-Laurel Road (also known as
Fredon-Marksboro Road) and turn right (east). Very quickly make a left turn
(north) onto Dixon Road, which goes down the hill. Follow Dixon road (the name
changes to Cedar Bridge Road) and park you cars close together in the parking
area on your left. There is a big tree shading a picnic table on the trail and
a long linear lake. On the right side is a red horse
barn.
From the east, take Rte. 80 to Allumachy exit. Take Rte. 206 north. (Note:
In Allumachy there is a small eatery which serves excellent breakfast, located
on the west side of 206 by about a block. It has flush toilets! It is on a
corner not visible from 206.) Follow Rte. 206 north to Springdale and then go
left on County Rte. 618 to State Rte. 94. Go left (west) on Rte. 94, which will
consecutively pass Rtes. 614 on 610 on the right. Watch for Fairview Hill Road
(labeled Valley Hill Road on some older maps) on your right. Go right on
Fairview Hill , then follow the directions above from Fairview Hill
Road.
